Hello Bello sits in a spot a lot of families appreciate: clean enough to feel good about, affordable enough to actually keep buying. If you have been asking are Hello Bello diapers non-toxic, the good news is that they hold up well.
Hello Bello uses totally chlorine free fluff pulp, and states that its diapers are free from artificial fragrance, phthalates, parabens, lotions, latex, and the organotin compounds TBT, DBT and MBT. They are hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested. Like every disposable diaper, they contain a superabsorbent polymer core.
If a stated chlorine claim is what you came looking for, Hello Bello has one. That is more than Millie Moon publishes and a stronger guarantee than Honest gives.
What Hello Bello Tells You
Here is the published composition:
- Totally chlorine free (TCF) fluff pulp from sustainably managed forests
- Super absorbent polymer for the core
- Nonwoven fibers — polypropylene, polyethylene and polyester
- Plant-derived PLA nonwoven fiber in the liner, made from corn
- Spandex strands and an elastomeric film for the stretch panels
And the list of what is left out: chlorine processing, artificial fragrance, phthalates, parabens, lotions, latex, and TBT, DBT and MBT.
That last trio is unusual enough to be worth explaining. Tributyltin, dibutyltin and monobutyltin are organotin compounds. They turned up in a Greenpeace study of disposable diapers back in 2000, and the finding has circulated in parenting forums ever since. Almost no brand addresses it directly. Hello Bello naming all three is a deliberate answer to a specific worry parents have carried for twenty-five years, and we think that deserves credit.
Where the Claim Gets a Little Softer
We would not be doing our job if we only told you the good parts.
TCF describes the fluff pulp, not the whole diaper. That is the correct use of the term, because chlorine bleaching is a pulp process and a pulp claim is the only one that means anything. But "totally chlorine free" on the front of a bag reads to most parents as a statement about the whole product, and it isn't. That is true of every brand, not just this one.
"Plant-based" is doing some work. The corn-derived PLA liner and the sustainably harvested pulp are both real. The diaper is still substantially polypropylene, polyethylene, polyester, spandex and elastomeric film, as every high-performing disposable is. Hello Bello does not claim to be a natural product, but the phrase on the bag can leave a different impression than the composition supports.
There is no OEKO-TEX Standard 100 on the diaper. Millie Moon, Honest and Kudos all carry it. Hello Bello's exclusion list is longer, but those exclusions are self-declared. OEKO-TEX is verified by an outside body against a restricted substance list. A long self-declaration and a short third-party certification are different kinds of evidence, and the second one is stronger.
Fragrance free versus unscented. The diapers are free from artificial fragrance. Hello Bello's wider range includes scented products. If you are managing a real fragrance sensitivity, check each item rather than trusting the brand across the board.
Why We Prefer Third-Party Certification
Self-declared exclusion lists are useful, and we are glad brands publish them. But there is a meaningful difference between a company telling you what it left out and an independent body testing the finished product and putting its name on the result.
That is the main thing separating Hello Bello from the diapers we carry, and it is worth understanding before you decide whether the price difference is worth it to your family.
Because let's be honest about Hello Bello's real strength: it is the most affordable genuinely TCF diaper most parents can pick up at a big-box store. For a lot of families that settles it, and that is a completely reasonable place to land.

What We Didn't Recommend, and Why
- Store-brand "sensitive" diapers with no published composition. If a brand will not tell you what is in it, there is nothing to compare.
- Anything claiming to be a biodegradable disposable. No mainstream disposable composts at home. Plant-derived materials improve sourcing, and that is worth something, but it is a different claim.
- Scented diapers. There is no version of this we would recommend.
